MANUEL MATHIEU PARFUMS:
TURNING THE INTANGIBLE INTO SCENT
An Unconventional Path
The story of Manuel Mathieu begins in Haiti, where he grew up surrounded by both beauty and violence. Through his connection with artist Mario Benjamin, he found his own path into art. That same sense of freedom and boldness continues today, now moving beyond the canvas into scent. As founder and artistic director, he moves effortlessly between mediums. From paintings to ceramics and installations, Manuel Mathieu’s work engages the senses, shaped by texture, colour, and emotions that linger.
Introducing
Chapter 1
Each fragrance starts in Manuel Mathieu’s art and is translated into scent, shaped by influences from Haiti and France. The collection is developed in close collaboration with perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou at IFF in Grasse. The idea is simple: to translate these inspirations into something you can wear.
The brand is already present in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Copenhagen, Montreal, and Paris. Its global presence continues to grow alongside Mathieu’s wider artistic journey, including the upcoming Venice Biennale 2026.
Inspired by his ceramic work, the flacon takes on a similar look and feel. Its sculptural shape carries the imprint of the artist’s hands, reflecting a sense of craftsmanship. The design hints at a mountain, reflecting Manuel Mathieu’s roots. It’s a nod to Haiti, often translated as “land of high mountains” in the Taïno language. His signature sits at the base, tying it to his wider creative world. It’s a statement piece in any perfume collection, doubling as art piece and signature scent. Perfect for those who want something memorable for both eye and nose.
Curious about the scents? Chapter 1 introduces three distinctive fragrances, just as striking on the skin as they are in design. Discover all three below.
Dsire
If sensuality had a scent, this might be it. Dsire feels primal with a soft, dreamlike edge. Vetiver, frangipani, and musk come together in a way that feels intimate, subtle, and hard to resist.
“Dsire is an intoxicating portrayal of seduction,
longing, and intimacy, with the daydreams
that ensue”
Île Noire
Manuel Mathieu’s first step into fragrance and his most personal creation. Inspired by his sister’s childhood bedroom, where jasmine drifted through an open window, Île Noire combines this soft floral note with warm ambergris and grounding tobacco. A precious memory, captured in scent.
“Île Noire is a visceral expression of Haiti;
a lighthouse of the land and sea”
Eccco
Rising from the sea, Eccco symbolises the calm after a volcanic eruption. Leather, vanilla pod, and sandalwood meet fresh citrus, creating a scent that feels serene, with a hint of mystery.
“Eccco symbolizes a new beginning. A flower’s journey from seed to smoke and back again, symbolizing grief, rebirth, and renewal”
In the end, Manuel Mathieu Parfums feels less like a typical fragrance brand and more like a unique extension of his artistic world, now moving beyond canvas and ceramics into scent.
