Roja Dove’s journey through the world of fragrance is nothing short of extraordinary. From his earliest memories of being captivated by scent, to establishing a world-renowned Haute Parfumerie in Harrods, Dove has pioneered the art of luxurious perfumery. His brand, Roja, founded in 2011, has become synonymous with sophistication, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. In this exclusive interview, Roja Dove shares a rare glimpse into his personal stories, creative insights, and visions for the future of Roja — including the launch of new fragrances, innovative layering techniques, and the growing legacy of haute perfumery.
In 2004, you launched the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, offering a curated selection of both renowned and emerging brands. How did it feel to establish your own perfumery within the world’s most iconic department store? And with this year marking the 20th anniversary of the perfumery, how do you reflect on this milestone?
I opened the world’s first Haute Parfumerie in Harrods to celebrate all that is beautiful about the craft of perfume–making. Stepping inside is like walking into an olfactive wonderland – a shrine dedicated to what I consider the world’s most creative, original, and luxurious creations. Twenty years on, I am honoured to say that we have been pioneers of luxury fragrance, with aficionados travelling from across the globe to discover Roja potions, alongside perfume maisons that I regard as the finest in our industry. The scents in my Haute Parfumerie are handpicked to become a part of our clients’ lives and loves.
What eventually inspired you to create Roja, which launched in 2011, and what was the creative vision behind it?
Roja was born from my desire to create fragrances that evoke emotion while embodying quality, luxury, and innovation. Scents that, I hope, will become a lasting part of our customers’ lives. From creative signature fragrances – parfum and eau de parfum – to home collections, each scent is crafted using the finest quality raw materials. We create fragrances that evoke sensations, unlock memories, and allow each wearer to authentically express their individual personality. Roja fragrances are olfactive art pieces. We are proudly and brilliantly British – an independent perfumery house that conjures scented enchantment with British flair, embracing humour and fantasy. We are celebrated globally for our uncompromising approach to luxury. Our handcrafted compositions are brought to life using the finest quality raw materials, encased in bejewelled bottles and crowned with crystal caps.
