THE ZERO PHILOSOPHY
“At Commodity, we approach everything from a ZERO position,” Vicken says. “We do not do things just for the sake of tradition, and we do not undo things just to be different. We look at each challenge and ask ourselves how we can learn from history and adapt it to be relevant today.” The result is a brand that stays fresh, intuitive, and surprising, giving customers exactly what they need in the moment.
COMMUNITY DRIVEN INNOVATION
What started as an idea to simplify perfume has now become a language shared by the community. Fans describe their scents as Personal, Expressive, or Bold, terms introduced by Commodity through their innovative Scent Space concept. “We are most proud when we see our community using our terms when speaking about our products on social media,” Vicken explains. These terms seem to have resonated with many fragrance lovers, because they simply make sense.
DESIGN YOU CAN FEEL
Commodity is known for minimalist design, but there is more to it than meets the eye. The plus and minus symbols on Commodity Milk bottles stand for Bold and Personal, while the colour choices reflect projection: white silver for subtle and black copper for powerful. Even the icons on the packaging, circles representing how far a fragrance projects, act as a quiet guide. “It’s not about whether people notice it,” Vicken says. “It is about whether they feel it.”
THE SECRET ROOM: COMMODITY EDITIONS
Alongside Scent Space, Commodity created a playground for niche lovers called Editions. Here, archive favourites like Rain, Wool, and Bergamot make a comeback, alongside new collaborations. These fragrances are available exclusively in the SoHo boutique or during limited online drops. Even the packaging was redesigned, giving Editions a unique identity apart from Scent Space.
A new chapter is now opening with Milk Orchid Limited Edition, a twist on the bestseller Milk. Co created with scent design student and content creator Emma (known as @perfumerism), this launch reimagines Milk with an unexpected floral facet.
